PIANIST


Toured extensively since 1998 with the UK’s leading tango ensemble Tango Siempre, giving performances throughout the UK and Europe, writing and arranging for the group. Recent projects include collaborations with London Mozart Players, Will Gregory (Goldfrapp) & Huw Warren and tours with jazz saxophonists Gilad Atzmon & Iain Ballamy, drummer Steve Arguelles & bandoneonist Paolo Russo. Worked with numerous British jazz artists including Andy Shepherd, Tim Garland, Iain Ballamy, Tim Whitehead, Martin Speake, Jim Mullen, Don Weller, Dave O’Higgins, Digby Fairweather and soul singer Ruby Turner. Performs regularly in UK and Europe with jazz/funk saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis and recently toured with Fred Wesley and the JB’s. Toured with own jazz groups including What Four and Ultrasound Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, and recorded debut CD with Loose Tubes flautist Eddie Parker. In January 2007 he gave a solo piano recital at St George’s, Brandon Hill in Bristol alongside virtuoso New York-based pianist/composer Uri Caine.


He has recorded two CDs of contemporary classical music for saxophone and piano with saxophonists Andrew Tweed and Nigel Wood, the latter on the unfeasibly small soprillo sax.


From 1994 to 1999 co-led jazz quartet What Four that was one of first jazz groups accepted onto Yehudi Menuhin’s ‘Live Music Now!” scheme and aside from touring and performing at various jazz festivals, the group led innovative music projects for adults with learning difficulties culminating in yearly performances at Bath Jazz Festival. In 1998 Birmingham Jazz commissioned ‘Synergy’, a project combining improvisation with popular dance music using synthesisers, samplers and electronic drums. This was premiered at the Custard Factory in Birmingham and was performed in 2000 at Cheltenham Jazz Festival alongside the Courtney Pine Group.
